Kasana Children’s Center

Located in central Uganda, Kasana Children’s Center was built in the middle of the abandoned battlegrounds of Uganda’s civil war. It is our original ministry site and today is the center of operations.

Its seven family groups are home to 120 children, and an additional 560 children receive care at Kasana. At Kasana, every child experiences love, holistic care, education, medical care, and is introduced to their Heavenly Father through discipleship.

Kasana Children’s Centre houses the following ministries in part or in whole:

  • Family Groups
  • Childcare Extension Program
  • Treasures in Jars of Clay Special Needs Ministry
  • Investment Year
  • Institute for Gospel-Transformation

Family Groups

The NHU model is based on Psalm 68:5-6 where God sets the lonely in families. NHU provides a non-institutional family model where children can feel safe, grow in Christ and learn to live as family.

Special Needs

The stigma of living with disabilities can be overwhelming and in Uganda many families are faced with insurmountable challenges. NHU’s Treasures in Jars of Clay ministry provides a place for children with disabilities to find value and understanding that they too were created in the image of God.

Early Adulthood

The transition from being a child to a young adult has its own unique set of challenges. Our Early Adulthood team walks with young people through this transition and shepherds them in their further education journey and what it means to be an adult. NHU’s Early Adulthood team operates our Investment Year program, better known as IY. What is IY? New Hope Uganda’s Investment Year in a nutshell is a gap year, but not a gap year as some understand it…

  • It isn’t a dead year.
  • It isn’t a time out of education.
  • It isn’t a waste…

It is just like the title says, “A YEAR OF INVESTMENT” in our young people. At the end of their S.4 year (10th grade equivalent), each student takes a year off of academics and enters an intense season of discipleship. During this year they will:

  • Read 18 books (approved), all requiring a book report at the end.
  • Receive teaching on many foundational biblical topics.
  • Learn life/job skills:
    • Resume/C-V preparation.
    • Personal Financial Management
    • Public Speaking
    • How to study the Bible
    • Navigating public transportation
    • Navigate the big city of Kampala
    • Time keeping
    • Many more.
  • Take tests to discover their spiritual gifts
  • Explore their passions and calling
  • Work three different internships relating to their potential future career.
  • Participate in a local outreach
  • Receive personal counseling to address previous wounds and the loss of their parents.
  • Attend three residential weeklong trainings
  • Attend a Father’s Heart retreat
  • Attend a Rites Of Passage camp at Musana Camps (R.O.P.E.S.)

And so much more. The goal and purpose of IY is for young people to grow in their relationship with their Heavenly Father and to explore what GOD has made them to be, discover what He has called them into, and be equipped for effectiveness and fruitfulness in that calling and in whatever community God places them in the future. By the end of the Investment Year, each young person will have a clearer vision for their next step in education and will re-enter the academic world to pursue the training needed for what God has put on their heart.
