About Musana
Musana Camps, a new branch of New Hope Uganda’s ministry, was founded out of a desire to reach more people with the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to bring the fatherhood of God to the fatherless. The motto “Encountering Truth, Transforming Lives” reflects the hope that everyone who enters the camp gates will encounter the truth of The Light, Jesus Christ, and have their lives transformed, being compelled to live for Christ, and thus set free to live as sons and daughters of our Heavenly Father.
Musana Camps’ beginnings stretch back to the mid 1990’s when New Hope Uganda’s founder, Jay Dangers, developed a passion to see the boys of Uganda grow into godly men. His desire was to have a youth camp on the shores of Lake Victoria that would immerse young men in biblical truth and train them into godly men who will lead by serving.
In 2008, Syd and Andrea Sparks came to join God’s ministry through this new branch of New Hope Uganda. In October of 2008, before the camp had a name or any buildings were constructed, they hosted the first camp retreat with the David Family from Kasana Children’s Center. In February of 2009, the Sparks moved to the land and, with the help of Nswemu Nathan, began to secure the property. By March of 2009, through the help of volunteers from Engineering Ministries International, Musana Camps found its name. By August of that year they received the title to the property.
From its beginning in 2009, Musana Camps’ desire has been to serve our guests. The Lord has blessed the camp with enough resources to host many groups, allowing the vision and ministry of Musana to begin taking root. During this first year and a half, over 275 people have come at different times for retreats, family holidays, volunteering, and more. In February, Musana hosted the first retreat for an outside group, from a group of churches in Kampala. Most recently, retreats were hosted for three family groups from New Hope’s Kasana Children’s Center as well as one staff family needing a refreshing break.
Musana Camps is growing and excited to have the addition of its second staff family, Dave and Andrea Bouffard, as well as our first full time Ugandan staff member, Medie Kanyike. Additionally, a third staff family, Nathan and Kendra Jackson, will be joining full time in December of 2010.
Musana Camps is located on beautiful Lake Victoria approximately 90 km from the capital city of Kampala. The site includes a white sand beach, equatorial forest, spring-fed stream, and grassy hilltops speckled with trees… plenty of room to run, play, and marvel at the beautiful creation that God has laid out.
