Early Adulthood/Post Kasana

At New Hope Uganda we believe that becoming family for the children God has given us does not end with a basic education. Though higher education is a significant challenge, we are walking with our sons and daughters well beyond their secondary education.

Early Adulthood (EA) staff begin working with New Hope children once they reach P4 delivering the “Why Wait” life skills program. EA also coordinates P7 week, Investment year, Post Kasana (children studying HSC, university, vocational programs etc.), seminars, lessons in local schools, and mentoring.

Early Adulthood goals are to:
Build positive relationships with our New Hope sons and daughters.
Strengthen the relationships of parents to the children (Mal 4:6).
Mentor our children through being positive role models.
Equip our children to fulfill God’s purposes for their lives.

Once a student graduates from level four of secondary school (S-4) from our New Hope Academy, he or she begins our one-year Investment Year (IY) program. The Investment Year is an integral part of the education we provide. IY is a year away from school focused on work, skills and discipleship. Our goal is to provide our children with the opportunity to discover, develop and experience: knowledge, skills and character. To learn much more about IY click here (Investment Year).

After the IY year, a New Hope young person typically enters A-levels (University track) or a Vocational school. Sons and daughters demonstrating solid character and academic skills are provided significant funding but are also asked to raise much of the money themselves. EA staff visit the students while they are in school and continue to work with them when they are home at New Hope or with their relatives during school breaks. New Hope works with sons and daughters who go to University in a similar way.
In whatever path our children take, we pray that they will experience new skills and knowledge leading to self-sufficiency and to becoming productive members of their community and nation.
