Since its inception, NHU has been all about the Fatherhood of God. Why is this such a big deal? Because to some degree, every human being wrestles with the reality of an orphan heart, whether we have living parents or not. Through sin, we have all been alienated from our Father, so we all bear similar wounds.
We all wrestle with the remnants of an orphan heart.
Because of its pervasive identity crisis, an orphan heart cannot trust. It fights for self-preservation by seeking to control every situation. It is unable to have genuine relationships because it is supremely selfish.
It would be very easy for us as an organization to just give the children we care for everything they need – Food, clothing, shelter, education – but only meeting their physical needs would not be bringing healing to their orphan hearts.
Genuine healing can only come to the orphan heart through the Gospel. The finished work of Christ provides access for every orphan heart to the healing heart of the Father (Ephesians 1:4-6). Hearts once orphaned now experience adoption into the family of the Father.
Fatherhood and adoption are best expressed and experienced within the context of family. As we recreate family for children who have none, we are really creating an avenue through which they can experience the Fatherhood of God – the only true source of healing for their orphan hearts. It happens one layer at a time, often very slowly, and is often met with extreme resistance, but through the love of Jesus, healing is possible!
This is why New Hope Uganda exists. It is why we do what we do. Join us.
